Composite resins provide good durability and resistance to fracture and are a perfect material to withstand the constant stress of chewing. They can be used on either the front or back teeth and are kinder to teeth as they require no healthy tooth substance to be removed unlike amalgam (mercury containing) fillings.

If you develop a carious cavity, Dr Razik or Dr Alvi will carefully remove the decayed tissue from the affected tooth and then apply a bonding agent (glue) prior to choosing the composite resin shade that most closely matches your own teeth. The composite filling will be meticulously layered in and then shaped to form cusps and other anatomical features that were lost to the disease.

It is important to note that tooth coloured (composite) fillings cost more than amalgam fillings, and if they are desired on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth, then they are not covered by the NHS.

Ultimately the best dental filling is no filling at all. Prevention is better than cure. You can dramatically reduce your risk of cavities and other dental diseases simply by brushing your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, flossing daily, eating a nutritious diet and visiting your dentist for regular check-ups at least twice annually.
