Inlays and Onlays
If you have a large cavity, or if your tooth is heavily filled, or perhaps your tooth has fractured and damaged its cusp, then maybe a ceramic inlay or onlay is your answer! These prostheses are custom made by our ceramists to mimic the natural contour of the tooth and are ideal for those wanting to avoid a long filling appointment or in some cases they are an excellent substitute to a crown. Allow me to explain what inlays and onlays are about, and whether it’s right for you!
At Main Street Dental Clinic in Coatbridge, we offer inlay and onlays if the tooth’s cusp system is destroyed by tooth decay or fracture. An inlay is an excellent alternative to a traditional filling (surrounded by the tooth walls) but is both more natural-looking and more durable. An onlay on the other hand, is used mainly for substantial rehabilitation, where one or more tooth cusps are involved.
