Dentures

If you have missing teeth or if you require teeth to be removed, then dentures are the answer to restore your smile. These custom-made protheses are removable and can be either partial (replacing some of your dentition) or complete (replacing all your dentition). Aside from improving your bite, dentures can make it easier to speak and give a youthful look by supporting your facial muscles such as lips and cheeks which tend to have a “sunk in” appearance with the absence of teeth.

Dentures can be made of either full-acrylic, or a combination of acrylic and metal (Cobalt Chrome) depending on the periodontal health of existing natural teeth. Denture construction can take up to 3 or 4 appointments, generally with one week in between each visit.

Immediate Dentures

These dentures are made to replace existing natural teeth and are fitted just immediately after their removal, normally within the same appointment. For optimal comfort and fit, a few adjustments may be required.

What to Expect

A temporary change in speech and mastication (chewing) habits. You may need some time to get used to your new dentures.

How to care for your dentures
After receiving your dentures, proper hygiene is paramount to prevent build-up of bacteria and plaque.

You will be instructed to brush your dentures daily with a toothbrush or denture brush in lukewarm soapy water (not toothpaste as it scratches the denture) and nightly soaking in a denture-cleaning solution. It is not advisable to keep your denture in your mouth overnight.

Schedule regular check ups
Even with complete dentures, regular dental exams are required. Dr Razik and Dr Alvi will make sure your dentures have a proper fit to prevent discomfort and also examine your mouth to make sure it is healthy.
